Rackspace Description

Texas-based cloud computing company Rackspace was founded in 1998 and is quite the household name. With their ‘Fanatical Support’ concept, the company distinguishes itself from its competitors by offering to focus on service and support rather than technology.

The core businesses of Rackspace are dedicated servers and cloud servers, though the company has a large portfolio with web services. Among others, the company offers website hosting, application migration, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Apps hosting, database and data analytics, email hosting and CDN services.

The company’s CDN is powered by Akamai, and Rackspace resells a custom map with 200 points-of-presence (PoPs):

15 South American locations

Note that a limitation to the Rackspace CDN is that clients can only add up to 10 domains (resources) per service.

Rackspace offers a free web-based application called Rackspace Marketplace that enables clients to manage a variety of business applications in a single place. Rackspace Price Overview

Rackspace offers two pricing schemes: one for Rackspace Cloud users and one for clients who use their own origin. The latter pricing scheme is has higher fares per Gigabyte (GB).

Price Overview tiers are billed by volume, where the inital 10TB will always cost $0.012 per GB. Once that ‘bucket’ is filled, prices will decrease for the next tier, until that bucket is filled – and so forth.

Rackspace Cloud users

Note that prices apply for usage accross US regions only. Fares for other regions, we assume, will be billed in accordance with the pricing scheme for non-Rackspace Cloud users.

First 10TB: $0.12 per GB
